EXAM POLICIES

All of the information below is extremely important! Make sure you read it all!!

Admission to the exam:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the exam state time.
  • Late arrivals are discouraged! If you arrive after even one candidate has finished and left the exam room, you WILL NOT be permitted to sit for the exam! If you arrive prior to the first person exiting the exam room you will be required to sign a statement clearly indicating your arrival time, as only the remaining time will be allowed for you to finish the exam. No additional time will be allowed due to late arrival!
  • Bring your admission slip.
  • Be prepared to show proper ID to gain admission to the test site (along with your admission slip)! Proper ID would be: a current state drivers license, state ID card, passport, or notarized photograph bearing your signature!
  • Refer to your Candidate information booklet for additional rules for the examination, appropriate dress, changes of address, name corrections or changes and special testing accommodations.

Scoring and Grade Notification:

  • All 100 Technical/Safety questions are 1 point questions. The passing grade is 75%.
  • All 50 Business questions are 2 point questions. The passing grade is 75%.
  • Notification of results should be received approximately 8-weeks after your exam by mail. NO TEST results will be given out over the phone.
  • Candidates who are unsuccessful can request a review. The request must be in writing and postmarked within twenty-one (21) days from the date on your original grade notice.
REFERENCE MATERIALS

Please refer to the Candidate Information Booklet for those reference materials you will need for your particular specialty study package.

 

Reference materials with hand-written notes are NOT allowed in the examination sites. Existing hand-written notes, formulas, indexing systems, etc., must be blacked-out or whited-out completely prior to arrival at the test center, thereby prohibiting legibility. Typewritten notes are also prohibited.

Reference books that have been underlined with pen or highlighter are authorized. Permanently attached book tabs with normal chapter headings are allowed; however, tabs must not contain statements, formulas, etc. Any removable tabs that would not damage a page if removed are prohibited. Post-it flags or notes are NOT permitted. You will not be permitted to write, underline or highlight in your reference books during the administration of the examination.

 

TEST TAKING ADVICE:

Advise offered here is presented to help you demonstrate your knowledge and maximize your chances of passing the examination.

 

  • Read ALL instructions carefully.
  • For best results, pace yourself and periodically check your progress. Remember: the more questions you answer, the better your chances of achieving a passing score. There is no penalty for guessing, so you should answer every question!
  • Be sure to record your answer to each question on you answer sheet! You may mark the questions in your exam booklet and return to them later, but your answers MUST be recorded on the answer sheet! No additional time will be allowed for transferring answers from your exam booklet to your answer sheet.
  • Immediately alert your proctor of any problems involving your exam materials! DO NOT wait until the exam is over to inform someone of a problem.

 

 

PERSONAL SUPPLIES:

Foreign language Translation dictionaries can be used only if they contain word for word or phrase translations ONLY. If you have question regarding the use of translation dictionaries contact the Bureau of Education and Testing, Examination Administration Unit at (850) 488-5952, or fax your questions to (850) 487-9757.

 

 

What you CAN bring to the exam:
  • Any personal items, such as toiletries, etc or supplies needed during the exam must be encased in a clear plastic bag, no larger than 8 inches x 11 inches in size.
  • ONLY approved materials and books on the approved reference list may be brought to the test center.
  • If needed, bring a magnifying glass to help you read any blueprints or plans.
  • Only non-programmable calculators will be allowed for use in the exam, provided they meet the specific requirements:    Hand-held, Self-contained, Battery operated (you can bring extra batteries), Non-printing or silent only, Functions limited to 12 digit display, single line memory and scientific functions, Without an alphabetic keypad.

Any calculator exceeding the above mentioned limitations WILL NOT be allowed into the exam room!

 

Please be advised that exam sites may experience minor noise disturbances, so if you are sensitive to noise, it is allowed and recommended that you bring un-corded ear plugs.

What you CANNOT bring to the exam:

 

Those items not listed in the Candidate Information Booklet, will be subject to removal by the DBPR’s representative at the exam site.

  • Purses, briefcases, portfolios, fanny packs or backpacks
  • Cameras, tape recorders, computers, pocket personal computers, PDA’s, etc
  • Pagers, electronic organizers, electronic transmitting devices or cellular telephones. (Any watches with alarms or beepers should be set so that they will NOT sound or go off during the exam!)
  • Any bound or loose-leaf reference materials and notes, paper clips and or metal clamps (with the exception of the UL 681 and UL 364 materials)
  • Dictionary’s (other than those pre-approved translation dictionaries), thesaurus, or other spelling aids
  • White or colored paper, writing tablets, notepads or highlighting pens.

 

 

The DBPR will provide scratch paper. All calculations during the exam must be done on this scratch paper and not on the exam or answer sheet provided!
